Summertime is sometimes used to relax, pause, and reflect on all the tasks accomplished so far. Some people might get lazy. But, this might be the perfect time to start working on your language skills.
Here are three reasons why it is a good idea to enhance your French skills this summer:
If you plan to visit a French-speaking country, this is a great opportunity to practice French. For that kind of conversation, it would be beneficial to practice your French skills.
If you're living in a city where different languages may be heard, or that many tourists visit over the year -- it would be useful to speak French in case you bump into a French-speaking person who needs help.
Exceptionally this year, more precisely this summer, the Olympic Games take place in France. That is also a great opportunity to immerse yourself in French and to learn vocabulary related to this international competition.
How can you work on your French skills every day?
Start small.
In the morning, it's a good idea to listen to the French radio, a French podcast, or just a French song that you like -- that will help you improve your listening skills. Apart from that, try repeating what you hear to memorize a few new words or phrases in French.
If you have more time and want to be more dedicated to the French language, try watching a good movie in French. Or find a series that you could watch for a week or two.
Don't forget to write!
Writing improves many aspects of your language skills. It boosts your vocabulary, as well as reinforces grammar rules. Writing in French can help you improve your language skills.
Finally, it's important to speak in French, too. Try finding another French enthusiast who would like to communicate in French. Or take part in conversation workshops -- it will help you get comfortable speaking in French. (You can join Fourmi Conversation workshops - https://www.fourmilanguages.com/fourmi-conversations)
Since you already have basic knowledge of French, don't let that knowledge deteriorate. Learning a foreign language is a process that requires time, dedication, and consistency.
